Never surprised, always disappointed. Can anyone do anything correctly any more?

Mobile phones seized in US criminal investigations are being sold online with personal data like emails, bank details and nude photos intact. Security experts warn that the practice enables hackers to buy phones and commit the same crimes as the previous owner, with the same data and victims.

Super bug Acinetobacter baumannii, which is resistant to existing antibiotics and designated a “critical” threat by the World Health Organization may have found its match thanks to AI crunching a list of over 6,000 compounds down to fewer than ten, one of which looks promising, according to Dr Jonathan Stokes, from McMaster University. It took all of one and a half hours to get that done.(Crunching powered by NVIDIA chips, whose market cap is now over a trillion dollars).

"AI enhances the rate, and in a perfect world decreases the cost, with which we can discover these new classes of antibiotic that we desperately need," Dr Stokes told [BBC]. 

This can't be good.

Many of Anderson’s signature obsessions are on display in his new movie, "Asteroid City,” according to a preview in the NYTimes.  It sounds bit like Apple+'s "Hello Tomorrow", a ’50s-set drama/sci-fi setting, but I'm sure the Anderson treatment of that era will be a bit more twee (I don't mind).  The theme is about parents and their space-obsessed children going to a convention in the desert, where they all must quarantine together after news of alien landings.

And then there's the narrative framing device:

We’re meant to be watching a TV broadcast (hosted by Bryan Cranston) that dramatizes the story of a playwright (Norton) who wrote an unproduced stage production called “Asteroid City.” Those framing segments are shot in black and white. It’s only when we leap into the idea of his play that Anderson transports us to the gorgeous teals and burnt oranges of the desert, where most of this story within a story (within a story!) unfolds.
